Learning From The Best Lensmasters
Glen’s Blog over at Lensroll has a great new post on what some of the top lensmasters do before publishing a lens , including yours truly. It’s definitely worth a read. I thought it was interesting that there was a definite split between some who viewed the question as mechanical, i.e.

It’s Never Been Easier to Buy and Sell Lenses
I’ve noticed a lot of renewed interest in buying and selling lenses on the lens marketplace at SquidU lately. As a result I sat down this weekend and reworked the entire interface of Sell My Lens . The new Lens Auction area is super easy to navigate, has an RSS feed for lenses currently for sale, and the listing process has been streamlined so it only takes a minute or so to list your lens for sale.

View Multiple Squidoo Accounts at Once
I know some lensmasters like to break out their lenses into different accounts depending on the content of the lens. For example, I know of several that have dedicated accounts for their music related lenses. I’ve stayed away from this for the most part, mainly because it’s something of a hassle to remember which lenses are in which accounts and I like seeing as much of a comprehensive overview of my Squidoo activities as possible.

Evergreen Modules: Using Evergreen Modules To Keep Your Lenses Fresh
Captain Squid is all over what’s evergreeen and what’s not. Evergreen means that Google looks at the content as updating andfresh versus non-evergreen which Google doesn’t even see. After reading this short update from the Captain, I went back and started adding Amazon and Google Blog searches to my lenses to add freshness to them. Now, this doesn’t mean just throw anything up there; we still want quality and relevance. However, this is also another way to have your lenses update for you with good and useful information that people can use.
Here’s what the Captain had to say:
Here’s a rundown of the most common:
eBay search : NOT evergreen - The eBay Module loads after the lens loads, so google only sees javascript, which it can’t interpret.
Amazon search: Evergreen - the Amazon module picks load with the lens, which means google sees these changing over time.
RSS Feeds - Not Evergreen - Again, this uses Java and loads after the lens so no google love.
Google Blog Search - Evergreen - Loads with the lens, just like the Amazon Module.
Youtube - Evergreen (I think) - The comments for the video load instantly, which is what google can see.
What does this mean?
Every lens you make should have either a Google Blog Search, Amazon module with search enabled, or a youtube video with search enabled in order to give you that ‘evergreen’ look that google loves so much.
Much thanks to Captain Squid for this info.
What exactly is Unique Content anyway?
Oftentimes as you browse the web looking for tips or tricks to improve your websites, lenses, blogs, and other digital online ’stuff’ you run into perhaps two of the most cliche sayings on the internet in the web development space: ‘content is king’ and you need to have ‘unique content’. Since neither of these phrases really provide any practical use to users, let’s try to move beyond it a bit and actually define what we mean when we talk about ‘content’
